Shatta Mejia (White Mountain Apache & Alabama Coushatta) comes from a union family of 13; his father was an organizer and inspired him to embark on a career of service to others. Shatta spent 4 years in Nonprofit management and 11 years teaching before becoming a principal. He later joined a publishing company as their international consultant, supporting schools in South America and the Caribbean.
Currently Shatta-I Consulting LLC supports Indigenous led Nonprofit
organizations in the states. He works in the areas of education, conservation,
health care, Buffalo rematriation, and Cross Cultural healing efforts. Shatta campaigns for a Woman’s right to choose; board member of Changing Woman Initiative for 2 years, an Indigenous Midwifery Nonprofit. He currently helps the NACE program in Denver Public Schools deliver leadership curriculum for American Indian and Indigenous students. Current clients include: Dream of Wild Health in Minneapolis; Tonatierra in Phoenix; OPIC in Portland; and the Mountain Sentinels in Ft. Collins, CO.
