AICH Youth and Education Council

Mission

The mission of the American Indian Youth Council is to to be a hub for the Native American & Indigenous students in New York City. We uplift and provide tools for them, as they are the future of our communities.

Since 1969, the American Indian Community House has been committed to supporting and uplifting Native & Indigenous youth in New York City. This has included providing financial assistance, hosting events, alleviating food stress through a food pantry, and helping Native students of all ages to succeed academically and socially.

Today, New York City is home to more than 11,000 Native American and Indigenous students1. However, this data does not always accurately reflect how many Native and Indigenous students are living across NYC. We work to fill in the cracks.

The American Indian Community House is also able to support the Native and Indigenous Youth of New York City today through the Kevin Tarrant Scholarship. This one-time scholarship is awarded annually to two Native students who are pursuing a higher education degree.

AICH also hosts career panels, cultural workshops, back-to-school events, and offers a whole host of other resources for students of all ages and their families.

Through cultural workshops, social gatherings, and monthly meetings, the Youth Council provides the Native & Indigenous youth who join with the opportunity to learn new skills, prepare for college, and be a part of the community of Native and Indigenous youth that are in the New York City area.

To register for the Youth Council please email Drew Woodson at dwoodson@aich.org and we will be in touch.
